Harbinger Adds HTML5 Interactions to Raptivity

In a significant move, Harbinger Knowledge Products today announced the addition of a set of HTML5-based interactions to its Raptivity Software. The product now enables users to create and add some of the learning interaction models as HTML5, in addition to Adobe Flash. HTML5 is the next major revision of the HTML standard on the web. It gained much popularity recently when Apple favored it over Adobe Flash for the Safari web browser on its iPhones and iPads.

The immediate impact of supporting HTML5 is that courses with HTML5 interaction models can play on iPhone and iPad devices, but HTML5 is a standard that is fast being supported on all web browsers. HTML5 is already supported on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers, and a new version of the dominant Internet Explorer browser from Microsoft, slated to come out soon, will also support the technology.

“We see HTML5 as a critical component of the future web, and a great technology for delivering interactive learning content.” said Vikas Joshi, chairman and managing director of the Harbinger Group. “There is an unprecedented proliferation of devices today, and our goal is to enable course creators to create interactive learning content and deliver it to learners using a variety of [these devices]. Both Flash and HTML5 are important and standard mediums for doing that.”

Raptivity allows trainers, educators and subject matter experts to create effective learning interactions quickly and easily. It uses Adobe Flash technology for its interactive learning content like quizzes, game shows, and has a list of over 240 interaction models. Like Flash, HTML5 supports many relatively complex interaction abilities, and the company claims that course creators will get a broader reach for their courses with HTML5.

“The new HTML5 pack supports our most popular interaction models. We want to provide our users with a choice of using the most popular and standard mediums for delivery of their courses,” said Seema Chaudhary, president of Harbinger Knowledge Products. “We look forward to adding more interactions in HTML5 and growing the product with the emerging standard.”
