Turtle Tanks
Turtles are considered to be very good pet in almost every part of the world. However the look after of pet turtles is a bit complex and needs special care and hard work. Turtles themselves are not very costly but their accommodation can be expensive as some of the turtles can grow to large size. Ecology of the Pet Turtles: The species of turtles which are available as pets are generally terrestrial. The pet turtles can be accommodated in both indoor and outdoor environment. You can place your turtle box inside your garden during the summer but should keep them inside your house when temperature falls below 100 C. You can keep two separate accommodation containers for different seasons. Summer Tanks: You can build the summer containers as large as you can afford. The large tank helps pet turtle to grow. Always try to build these tanks in the eastward direction so that the pet can warm up in the morning. The pet place should have sunny area, some shady spots, many water and food dishes, and hiding places. The water dishes for drinking should not be so deep that it becomes difficult for the turtle to climb out if it falls in them. Turtles are considered great climbers so you should not place any big pot or frame close enough to your turtle enclosure walls. The turtles will also climb vines or tomato plants to escape so try making turtle tanks away from these. Turtles love edible landscaping, small hills of loose dirt and wood to crawl over. A top cover can also be used on the enclosure of pet turtles. This will protect them from cats, dogs, birds and small children. The size of the turtle tank should be minimum 100 cm x 200 cm (3' x 6') for one turtle. You can add proportional space for any additional turtles. You can build the turtle tank by using wooden planks. The paving stones or bricks should be laid inside the turtle trunk to prevent digging. Winter tanks: Most of the pet turtles are terrestrial. They generally come from warm parts of the world. The most suitable atmospheric temperature for these pets is around 20-30°C. This temperature can be easily attained with the use of infrared heating lamps. A hiding place should also be there for the turtle. The pet turtles should not be kept inside the turtle tanks for longer than four to six months. With the increase in size they need to have bigger containers. Use those turtle tanks which are made up of plastic or wood. The plastic is always used for ease in cleaning while wood is used because it is easy to construct turtle tanks with it. The size of the winter turtle tanks should not be less than 100 cm x 200 cm (3' x 6') for one turtle. The container should not be see-through because your turtle will thrash himself fanatically against the walls of the container. You should also provide fresh and clean water for swimming plus a dry land. So it is advisable to divide the turtle tanks into two halves with the help of small stones or gravel. Normally you should pour 50-60 gallons of water for swimming. The turtle generally grow very large with quite reasonable speed so make sure that all the accessories should be modified according to the change in the physical appearance of pet. Conclusion: The kid turtle is very delicate creature. It needs a little bit effort and thinking to build their living place. One thing you must ensure is that the turtles and fishes should not be kept in the same tank. Matthew have been writing articles for nearly 2 years.
