“JOAN OF ARC: CHILD OF WAR, SOLDIER OF GOD” PREMIERES IN PRIME-TIME ON HALLMARK CHANNEL MARCH 21
Tony Award® Nominee, Alfred Molina, star of Broadway’s “Fiddler on the Roof,” and Hollywood’s “Frida,” “Spiderman II” and “Chocolat” narrates.  Anna Paquin, Academy Award®-winning actor for “The Piano” and star of “X-Men,” “The 25th Hour” and “Almost Famous,” is the voice of Joan. Faith & Values Media’s original docudrama was directed and produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Pamela Mason Wagner, who earlier brought the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Patrick to television for Faith & Values Media.

“Throughout history poets, artists, religious and cultural leaders have followed a voice within themselves to accomplish wonderful things,” said Edward J. Murray, president and chief executive officer of Faith & Values Media. “Joan serves as inspiration for everyday individuals, of all ages and walks of life, to believe in God and believe in their mission.”

The Voice of God

As the English raided the countryside villages of France in 1425, 13-year-old Joan began hearing voices, voices that demanded she bring peace to war-ravaged France. By 17, Joan had convinced leaders of France to grant her an army, and she fearlessly mobilized her troops on a quest that stunned the English invaders and brought about the coronation of the Dauphin, the French heir to the throne.  At 19, Joan was convicted of heresy and sentenced to an agonizing death–burning at the stake.

“We don’t have to accept our challenges; we can say ‘no.’ That’s why when people say ‘yes,’ and step up to the challenge, it becomes an amazing thing,” said Barbara Hall, creator and executive producer of the television series “Joan of Arcadia,” who provides commentary in “JOAN OF ARC: Child of War, Soldier of God.”

The new special was filmed on location in France and the Czech Republic, and details Joan’s simple upbringing in Domremy, her surrender to the voices she believed came from God, and her struggle to follow her belief in something that no one else could see.  For the first time, viewers can see Joan’s life unfold through her own eyes and based on her own words, and experience the powerful grip of faith that inspired her to lead, according to director Wagner.

“Most of the dramatic depictions of her life have focused on the men who surrounded her and have portrayed her as a victim of male intrigue,” says Wagner.  “In this production, we have worked hard to capture the world as Joan must have experienced it – the doubts, the fears, and the triumph of acting as an instrument of God in re-writing the history of the world in which she lived.”

In addition to Barbara Hall, on-air commentary is provided by:

    * Anne Barstow ( Professor of Humanities for American Studies, Emerita ) – State University of New York
    * Leo Braudy ( Professor of English ) – University of Southern California
    * Kelly DeVries, author of “Joan of Arc: A Military Leader”
    * Nadia Margolis, author of “Joan of Arc in History, Literature and Film”
    * Françoise Meltzer ( Professor of the Humanities, French & Comparative Literature ) – University of Chicago
    * Siobhan Nash-Marshall, author of “Joan of Arc: A Spiritual Biography”
    * Jane Marie Pinzino ( Co-Founder, International Joan of Arc Society )
    * Karen Sullivan ( Associate Professor of Literature ) – Bard College

“JOAN OF ARC:  Child of War, Soldier of God” is the newest docudrama produced for Faith & Values Media by Lightworks Producing Group and directed by Pamela Mason Wagner.  The previous two docudramas, on Saint Francis and Saint Patrick, won prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Awards and a number of other major national awards.  Executive producers are Edward J. Murray and William Spencer Reilly of Faith & Values Media and Jeffrey C. Weber of Lightworks Producing Group.
