Nokia delivers Push to Talk and Presence to AVEA in Turkey
Espoo, Finland - AVEA Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S. ( TT&TIM ) has selected Nokia to supply its commercial Push to Talk over Cellular ( PoC ) service, launched in November 2004. Nokia's PoC solution brings an easy and instant form of communications to AVEA's customers.
The deal also includes the Nokia Presence solution, which is based on open standards and provides support to PoC, as well as to many other applications. The Nokia Presence solution adds a whole new dimension to staying in touch by letting mobile subscribers know how and when they can reach their family, friends, or colleagues -- before making a call.
AVEA is a new customer for Nokia and joins the increasing number of operators worldwide that are adopting Nokia's innovative PoC solution for walkie-talkie type of voice services between individuals or within groups. AVEA is jointly owned by TIM, Turk Telekom, and Isbank.
"AVEA has long intended to become the first operator launching advanced new services for the Turkish market," says Cahit Paksoy, Board Member and CEO, AVEA. "AVEA strongly believes in attracting new customer segments by providing high-value applications, and we see push to talk as one of the most attractive mobile voice services for our market."
"We chose Nokia as a reliable partner in this new services area, and we believe this new cooperation will bring high value to our new company," he adds.
"Nokia is pleased to have been selected by AVEA for PoC service deployment," says Murat Kircuval, General Manager, Networks, Nokia Turkey. "Nokia and AVEA share a common vision about the great potential of the Turkish market for adopting new applications and services, starting with push to talk."
In addition to PoC and Presence Nokia will provide installation, commissioning and project management services as well as consultancy for the integration of PoC to the billing and mediation systems. The services will be supported using Nokia NetActä, the only fully featured, multi-vendor, multi-technology operations support system on a single platform. With commercial contracts with 30 operators, Nokia is leading the market for Push to talk over Cellular in GSM.
Avea, the Turkish company with the highest capital, aims to raise the service quality in the GSM sector. Being "the alternative operator" that has brought the real competition to the sector, Avea offers new products and opportunities, different tariffs to different groups for the usage of both individual and corporate customers in the private and public sectors. At the same time, Avea offers many first time services with the highest quality and the most convenient prices through making use of all the advantages of the new technology and in this respect, has been the pioneer as the technology leader in the GSM sector.

Note to editors
Push to talk over Cellular ( PoC ) introduces a new, direct one-to-one and one-to-many voice communication service to GSM/GPRS networks.
With push to talk, mobile phone users can use their mobiles like walkie-talkies, communicating with a selected group or with individuals with the push of a single button. This simple, direct communication serves the needs of both business and private users.
Push to talk is especially suited for cases where users need to communicate repeatedly but occasionally with the same group or individual.
Nokia's push to talk solution offers a full feature set and smooth migration to the upcoming Open Mobile Architecture ( OMA ) standard. Nokia's solution is compatible with the IP multimedia subsystem as standardized in 3GPP, and it will be capable of supporting various push to medias, such as video.
Nokia's carrier-grade PoC solution provides competitive performance, a full feature set. Nokia is trialing its solution with more than 30 operators around the world.
Nokia launched its carrier-grade push to talk network products in October 2003, and the world's first push to talk phone, the Nokia 5140, in November 2003. Since then Nokia has introduced a full range of push to talk capable GSM phones, including non-Symbian terminals and Symbian OS-based smartphones. From 2005 onwards push to talk will become available for virtually all Nokia GPRS/WCDMA phones.
Nokia's carrier grade presence solution is based on Open Mobile Alliance ( OMA ) standard. The solution provides competitive performance, and a full feature set supporting PoC as well as a number of other applications. Nokia is trialing the Presence solution with a number of operators around the world.
